Little Explorers care deeply about our environment and put our sustainability at the heart of our service.

We are big fans of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ethos and aim to keep our footprint as small as possible, we share this with the children and educate them about global citizenship and responsibility.

Our resources are mostly wooden, made from sustainable sources. We aim to provide wooden toys where possible as they are more durable and environmentally friendly.

We acknowledge that it is difficult to get away from plastic toys and that many hours of fun can come from these resources! However, we firmly believe that these should be limited and used responsibly. All our plastic toys are therefore pre-loved and carefully selected to avoid waste.

We love washable nappies and use biodegradable or washable wipes.

We limit the use of printables and prefer to use natural resources in our play. We aim to use digital paperwork where we can and often visit local recreate stations for our resources to reuse as much as possible. We take our recycling seriously, and use different schemes such as Rhiwbina Against Plastic, Benthyg and Iechyd Da as well as the local council schemes. Our soft plastics are recycled through the Co-Op and nappies are repurposed for new road surfaces. We have joined with Keep Wales Tidy & Caru Cymru to pledge to keep the park a Litter Free Zone. This helps maintain the Green Flag status.

We follow the principles of forest schooling and love to be outside as much as possible, learning about our environment. We visit Heath Park and the Gardens as much as we can. We like to climb trees, do bark rubbings, build dens, spot the wildlife and collect leaves. Rain or shine, we'll be out there so don't forget your wellies!

We grow a lot of the food we eat, we have a range of berries, fruit trees, potatoes, salad crops, beans and root vegetables. This helps children understand where food comes from & cuts down on food miles.
